We just happened to be in Orlando to try out the Flowrider at the Adrenalina shop in the mall. We were surprised to see Wakeboard Pros Parks Bonifay, Shane Bonifay, Daniel Watkins and Brett Eisenhauer show up for two sessions. Thought you might like to see them in an entirely different water form. The girl you see in the video works at the Adrenalina shop, she rides this thing every day and she totally rips!!
Wake boarding May 07 014, originally uploaded by South Florida Wake.
Since we had some food and drink left over from our canceled Demo Day on May 6th we decided to put it to use this past weekend. Over 15 members (and some soon to be members) gathered at Okeeheelee Park this past Sunday to enjoy the day, try some new boards and eat some food. Yes that is me in the picture above, but there was alot of great riding that day.
Just a quick update as to our membership numbers as the association grows. Remember membership is about more than the t-shirt and discounts, it is about the opportunity to be apart of the wakeboarding community in South Florida. It you haven’t joined you don’t know what your missing. As our voice grows in our community so does the opportunities that we have to grow the sport. Our membership list is growing by leaps and bounds, our current membership count is at 73 individuals and growing each day. With that in mind, join me in welcoming Karen Alford, John Nowicki, Morgan Baer and Family, Jeremy Fountain and Family, Mark Clauss and Family, Dan Wetzel, Dominic Rocco, Cassius Cade and Family and Calvin Warriner. The website is also growing as we have had almost 3,000 views in little under a month-not bad!
Each month on this site, the SFWA is going to profile a member. The idea is to present some of the achievements and stories of our members. If we are going to be a unified voice in the wakeboarding community it would be nice to know each other, right? Since this is the first member profile, I thought it was only fitting to “go big” and profile two members; sisters. It is a pleasure to have these ladies in our organization as they are working hard to establish themselves amongst the best riders in the world. Hopefully, as they grow and succeed, the SFWA can be right there cheering them on. So without further ado, I introduce Kayla and Melanie Chojnacki.
SFWA is proud to welcome the newest members of our wakeboarding community. Over the past week we have welcomed 20 new riders. By joining the SFWA these 20 people have expressed their desire to be a part of the wakeboarding movement in South Florida. Join me in welcoming Scott Stewart, Brandon Selle and family, Marty Beno, Bryan Beno, Rudy Ladicani, Justin Beale, Dan Kobes, Rob Harding, Kyle Robinette, Melanie Chojnacki, Kayla Chojnacki, Troy Lashon, Tim Jacques and family, Gage Woodard, Katie Roscoe, Michael Clanton, Eddie Johnson and Family, Alex Tattersfield, Christian Tattersfield and Jordi Wiltshire.
On Friday, May 4th, 2007 at 3:30pm, the Palm Beach County Parks and Recreation Department notified us that the first SFWA event to be held at Lake Okeeheelee Park from 10:00am until 6:00pm is cancelled.
Apparently, our permit for the event (which has been in place for over two months) and scheduled riding activities were in conflict with a SkiClub event at the Park. The Park has five lakes, two of which are designated wakeboarding only. The SkiClub of Palm Beach County is having an event that will use the other three lakes and has prevented our access into the other two lakes (which again, they are not even using). The SkiClub had the opportunity to allow us to use the lakes regardless of the misstaken permits but choose not to.
Everyone, this is exactly the reason that we have decided to form the South Florida Wakeboarding Association. Wakeboarding in South Florida has been run out by groups like this who are not friendly towards the wakeboarding community. This turn of events should be upsetting to everyone who wakeboards and wakeskates. Our sport is under attack in South Florida and we have a long road to go to accomplish our goals, that message is crystal clear as I type this today. It is disheartening and extremely disappointing that this could happen.
The SFWA is currently pursuing our options in this matter but for now it appears we have no choice but to cancel the event and regroup.
