Our membership meeting this past Saturday at SkiRixen in Deerfield Beach was a success. Thanks to everyone who was able to make it out. I know it was a bad weekend for some with various wake events taking place throughout Florida, but nonetheless we had a good showing and a great time (and an event with no rain for a change). In all we had about twenty or so riders enjoying the park.

The video above shows the good, the bad and the ugly from the day. Enjoy it and let me know what you think (sorry about the lighting in the video-I need a better video camera). Read the rest of this entry »

Dan Kubes on the Double Up, originally uploaded by, SFWAKE

Things have been busy with the SFWA as of late, between planning for the November tournament (Proes and Joes-look for the official announcement next week), planning for the September 8th, 2007 Membership meeting and preparing for Surf Expo in Orlando, I almost forgot the September 07, Member Profile. I did not want to do that so I quickly searched for a member with some free time to fill in the answers to some questions for me. The September 07 Member Profile belongs to Dan Kubes. Dan is a perfect example of what the SFWA is all about. After reading his answers I think you will see that he is passionate about the sport and about our organization. Dan is a very smooth rider and is gifted with a natural ability. I am proud to profile him this month as he is both a SFWA member and a good friend (but not good enough that I would give him a whole month-sorry Dan). So enjoy the Q & A. Without further ado:

The next couple of months are going to be hectic for our association. With November 17, 2007 fast approaching our first wakeboard tournament is right around the corner. “Pros and Joes” is going to be our coming out party so to speak; our announcement to the wakeboarding world that South Florida is back in the game for good. The planning for the event is going great, I am so excited to tell you the progress we have made when we meet for our September 8, 2007 membership meeting at SkiRixen. I really hope to see you there because this will be our best opportunity to meet and discuss the event. If you can be there, please do so-alot of information will be shared this day and I don’t want anyone to miss out.

Just a quick update on the association. The next several months are going to be pretty hectic for the club. By the end of this month we will be publishing our first quaterly newsletter (if anyone is interested in writing a piece for the newsletter please contact me ASAP), we are in the process of planning a September event to be held at the Key Lime House in Lantana (nothing set in stone yet but there could be some big riders on their way) and we are in full speed mode planning for our November 17th, year-end tournament (we will be seeking volunteers very soon). In addition, the membership numbers continue to grow. Currently, we have 41 memberships with a total of 78 members. We are fast approaching our goal of 100 members. So join me in welcoming to the club the following: Cassius Cade and family, Mark Roche, Fred Chidsey and family, Victor Vazquez, Donald Hyams and family (including his son Kyle who was on the cover of the May 2007 issue of Alliance Wakeboarding Magazine), Mark Carter, Dannielle Crawford of the WWA and Myles Minns and family.

Just a quick update as to our membership numbers as the association grows. Remember membership is about more than the t-shirt and discounts, it is about the opportunity to be apart of the wakeboarding community in South Florida. It you haven’t joined you don’t know what your missing. As our voice grows in our community so does the opportunities that we have to grow the sport. Our membership list is growing by leaps and bounds, our current membership count is at 73 individuals and growing each day. With that in mind, join me in welcoming Karen Alford, John Nowicki, Morgan Baer and Family, Jeremy Fountain and Family, Mark Clauss and Family, Dan Wetzel, Dominic Rocco, Cassius Cade and Family and Calvin Warriner. The website is also growing as we have had almost 3,000 views in little under a month-not bad!

SFWA is proud to welcome the newest members of our wakeboarding community.  Over the past week we have welcomed 20 new riders.   By joining the SFWA these 20 people have expressed their desire to be a part of the wakeboarding movement in South Florida.  Join me in welcoming Scott Stewart, Brandon Selle and family, Marty Beno, Bryan Beno, Rudy Ladicani, Justin Beale, Dan Kobes, Rob Harding, Kyle Robinette, Melanie Chojnacki, Kayla Chojnacki, Troy Lashon, Tim Jacques and family, Gage Woodard, Katie Roscoe, Michael Clanton, Eddie Johnson and Family, Alex Tattersfield, Christian Tattersfield and Jordi Wiltshire.
